🇬🇧 Car insurance for young drivers up nearly £600 on average.
Car insurance costs for young drivers have soared by around 50% in the past year, figures suggest.
According to new research from comparison site Compare the Market, the average insurance premium for a driver aged under 24 was £1,792 in August.
That was a £594 (50%) increase from the same period last year, when it was £1,198.
The comparison service said car insurance now represents nearly two-thirds of the total cost of running a car for young drivers.
Policies are more expensive for young drivers as they are more likely to have accidents, and therefore make a claim.
