Renewing an adult UK passport: fees, timings and urgent services
You can renew a UK passport online for £102. Here is what a paper application costs, how the Fast Track and Premium urgent services differ, and why you should not book travel until the new passport arrives.
Thanks for £1
You can renew or replace an adult UK passport if you are 16 or over, or turning 16 within the next three weeks. You apply online on GOV.UK or on a paper form — and that choice sets the price.
What it costs
- Adult passport (16 and over): £102 online or £115.50 by paper form.
- Child passport (under 16): £66.50 online or £80 by paper form.
These are the standard 34-page passport fees. The fee information on GOV.UK was last updated on 9 September 2026.
Urgent services
If you need a passport quickly there are two paid fast services, priced well above the standard fee.
- 1 week Fast Track — £192 for an adult passport (£206 for a 54-page frequent traveller passport), £156.50 for a child. You get an appointment the day after you apply, and the passport is couriered about a week after the appointment.
- 1 day Premium — £239.50 (£253.50 for a 54-page passport). It is only for renewing an adult passport. The earliest appointment is 2 days after you apply, and the new passport is ready to collect 4 hours after the appointment.
What to keep in mind
Your new passport will have a different number from the old one. HM Passport Office therefore warns you not to book travel until the new passport is in your hands.
The finished document arrives by courier or Royal Mail. The package is not labelled as a passport: it may go through your letterbox, be handed to you, or come with a card explaining how to collect it. You can track the application with your reference number.
Current standard processing times are published by HM Passport Office on the GOV.UK service page — check it before you travel.
