The Bank of England's Bank Rate stands at 3.75%. It was set at that level by the decision published on 30 July 2026 and has not moved since. The next Monetary Policy Committee announcement is due on 17 September 2026.

Why a small company should care

Bank Rate is the rate at which the Bank of England lends to commercial banks. Business loans, overdrafts, equipment finance and mortgages are all priced from it. A change does not pass into contracts overnight, but it sets the direction: you will meet it in the numbers when a facility is renewed or a fixed mortgage period ends.

The second channel is sterling. The decision and the tone of the statement that accompanies it move the exchange rate, and with it the cost of buying abroad and the receipts of anyone selling outside Britain.

What to watch on 17 September

The Bank publishes more than the rate itself: the split of the vote and the minutes of the meeting come with it. The split often says more about what comes next than the decision does — a unanimous hold and a divided hold are different signals for anyone planning to borrow.

We do not forecast the rate and we do not advise on whether to fix your borrowing. The decision is published by the Bank of England; the link below goes to the official page, where the figure is updated on the day.
