What was playing from every window, cafe and pair of headphones in 2026? Here is a digest of the UK’s biggest songs of the year from the Official Charts. The figures are year-to-date (to autumn 2026); the final year-end chart lands in late December, but the picture is already clear.
Song of the year and a historic record
The outright hit of 2026 is “Man I Need” by the British singer Olivia Dean: over 173 million UK streams. And the big record went to “Rein Me In” by Sam Fender, featuring the same Olivia Dean — it spent 23 weeks at Number 1, the longest-running chart-topper in the history of the Official Singles Chart, overtaking Frankie Laine’s 1953 classic “I Believe”.

Who else made noise
It was a largely British year: Olivia Dean is the story of the season, with four songs in the Top 40. The young American sombr landed three tracks at once (“Homewrecker”, “12 to 12”, “Back to Friends”), and Zara Larsson two. Also big: Bruno Mars (“I Just Might”), DJO (“End of Beginning”), Tame Impala (“Dracula”), while Olivia Rodrigo stormed in with a new single, “drop dead”. A story of its own was the viral return of Justin Bieber’s 2012 song “Beauty and a Beat” after his Coachella set.
In short: 2026 in Britain belonged to Olivia Dean and a new generation of British artists, with a historic record for weeks at Number 1 and the usual strong presence of global stars. The Official Charts will sum up the full year in late December.
