Network Railcard: train discounts in South East England
The Network Railcard gives 1/3 off travel around London and South East England. It costs £35 a year and extends the discount to companions, including children.
Thanks for £1
The Network Railcard is for people travelling around London and the surrounding South East counties — for example to Brighton or Reading. Its feature is group discounts.
Where and for whom does it apply?
The discount works on journeys that start and end within the Network Railcard area (London and the surrounding South East). On one card you get 1/3 off for yourself and up to 3 other adults (up to 4 adults in all), and 60% off for up to 4 children aged 5–15. Children under 5 travel free. Companions must travel with the holder from the same station.

The card costs £35 a year. Given the group discounts, travelling as a group pays for it in one or two outings.
What are the time restrictions?
On weekdays, journeys before 10am (except public holidays) are not included. At weekends and on public holidays the discount applies all day. There is also a £13 minimum fare on weekdays (child tickets have a £1 minimum at any time). Some stations allow an earlier start, as listed by the operator.
How do you apply?
Apply online at railcard.co.uk. Before buying, check the area map to see whether your stations are covered. If you travel nationally rather than only in the South East, look at the national cards (Senior, 16-25, Family & Friends, Two Together). When buying a ticket, choose the Network Railcard fare and carry the card.
How do you check if you are in the area?
The Network Railcard only works on journeys that both start and end inside the area (London and the surrounding South East — from Brighton to Reading and beyond). Before buying, check the area map on the website: if your route goes outside it, the discount does not apply. For travel across the whole country, national cards suit better.
How do you get the most from it?
The card's main value is group discounts: 1/3 off for you and up to three adults, and 60% off for up to four children on one journey. So it is especially good for weekend outings together, when the weekday morning limit does not apply. On weekdays remember the £13 minimum fare and that the discount starts after 10am. At £35 a year the card pays off for anyone travelling around London and the South East even a few times.
