A ‘free office’ in London? Where you are welcome, with Wi-Fi and tea

London’s Loved and Wanted network is open to every Londoner, but not every venue is a free coworking office. We checked the current 29-address directory to find free Wi-Fi, study desks, tea and paid alternatives from £8.50.

London now has a network of places where people can visit without membership, meet others, find advice or simply avoid being alone. It is called Loved and Wanted Here, backed by £1.8 million from the Mayor of London and the National Lottery Community Fund.

However, ‘free office’ needs qualification. City Hall does not promise a desk, Wi-Fi, tea or permission to hold video calls at every venue. The official page says that each Community Space offers something different. On 10 October 2026 the live directory listed 29 addresses, although the Mayor’s launch report referred to a 30-space network.

The precise answer: a free workspace backed by public business support

City of London SBREC — a £0 workspace membership for one year

Address: Small Business Research + Enterprise Centre, 80 Basinghall Street, London EC2V 5AG.
Hours: Monday–Thursday, 10am–5pm.
Cost: £0 with free Access membership; membership lasts 12 months and can be renewed.

This is the closest match for a new entrepreneur. The centre is operated by the City of London Corporation. Free membership includes flexible workspace, free Wi-Fi, all business databases inside the centre, selected databases remotely and help from business advisers. Applicants must be UK residents aged 16 or over and may be pre-startups or organisations with fewer than 250 employees, turnover below £25 million and gross assets below £12.5 million. Processing takes up to two working days and ID is required on the first visit.

Limit: this is shared flexible workspace, not a private permanent office. Short meetings of up to 15 minutes may take place in the shared work area. Longer private meetings require rooms priced from £27 per hour; the ground-floor level may be used without charge subject to the centre's rules.

Camden Hub 30 — 30 free hours every month

Address: Impact Hub London Euston, 1 Triton Square, London NW1 3DX.
Venue hours: Monday–Friday, 8am–7pm.

The Camden Council programme provides 30 hours of free coworking per month for six months, followed by a 50% discount for another six months. It includes high-speed internet, workshops, mentoring and networking. Applicants must live in Camden, have a business registered there or demonstrate significant local activity. Selection applies; it is not an automatic entitlement to a free private office.

Start Up Wandsworth — a free coworking lounge

Address: York Gardens Library, 34 Lavender Road, Battersea, London SW11 2UG.

Free Start Up Wandsworth membership includes complimentary access to the shared coworking lounge, business clinics, workshops, webinars and one-to-one support. Separate desks, offices and meeting rooms at York Gardens and Putney Library may be chargeable; request a price from startupwandsworth@gll.org.

BIPC — publicly backed library business support

The main Business & IP Centre is at the British Library, 96 Euston Road, London NW1 2DB. London centres also operate in Bromley, Enfield, Greenwich, Lewisham, Waltham Forest and Wandsworth. Selected branches offer free workspace alongside business databases, workshops and advice. These are shared library facilities rather than private offices; meeting-room availability and booking terms vary by branch.

Places where you can genuinely work for free

Swiss Cottage Library — the strongest free option

Address: 88 Avenue Road, London NW3 3HA.
Hours: Monday–Thursday 10am–8pm; Friday–Saturday 10am–5pm; closed Sunday.

There is free Wi-Fi for everyone, quiet study space and public computers without advance booking. The main library page states a two-hour daily PC limit on a first-come, first-served basis. Scanning, printing and copying are available, but are not advertised as free. A second-floor café sells refreshments. Accessible toilets include a Changing Places facility.

You can: work on a laptop, read, study and use Wi-Fi.
Do not assume: a private office, free printing or free tea.

Grand Junction — free Wi-Fi, paid coffee

Address: St Mary Magdalene's, Rowington Close, London W2 5TF.
Café: normally 9am–4pm.

The official page explicitly welcomes remote workers. The café provides free Wi-Fi, indoor seating and a terrace in warmer weather. Tea, coffee and food are sold. Free tea and cake may be offered at specific events, but not as an everyday entitlement.

Walworth Living Room — free tea, coffee and snacks

Address: All Saints Hall, Surrey Square, London SE17 2JU.
Hours: Wednesday–Friday 10am–4pm; Saturday 10am–2pm.

You can drop in for a chat and a cuppa. The organisers advertise free tea, coffee and snacks, board games, puzzles, colouring books and children’s toys. A free community brunch runs on Thursdays from 10am to 11.30am. Permanent Wi-Fi and coworking use are not promised, so ask before planning calls or a long laptop session.

Bromley by Bow Centre — free Wi-Fi and practical support

Address: St Leonard's Street, London E3 3BT.

Thylu Café is open to all Monday–Saturday, 8am–5pm, and offers free Wi-Fi; food and drinks are sold. The Welcome Hub operates Monday–Wednesday and Friday 9.15am–4.30pm, and Thursday 9.15am–1pm. Visitors can ask about free help with employment, digital skills, benefits, housing, debt and starting a business. Free digital drop-ins run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am.

Where can a founder meet a partner or investor for free?

Short answer: it is difficult to walk in and obtain a private meeting room free of charge. Genuine free options normally require an application, programme membership or eligibility.

Ramen Space — one free trial day

Address: Unit 6, Sledge Tower, Dalston Square, London E8 3GT.
Hours: Monday–Friday, 9am–6pm.

Founders building SaaS, apps and other technology startups can apply for a free trial day with no card required. The space advertises four meeting rooms, 1Gbps Wi-Fi, monitors, tea, coffee and snacks. At the time checked, rooms did not require a separate reservation. This is not free room hire for the general public: describe what you are building, choose a weekday by the previous day and obtain confirmation. Ask in advance whether an external partner or investor may join you. After the trial, a day pass costs £30 excluding VAT.

Adeline Founders’ Floor — six months at £0

Address: 116 High Holborn, London WC1V 6RD.

Selected founders receive six months of free coworking with no fee or equity. Credits can be used to book desks and meeting rooms, with up to two seats per startup. Eligibility is limited to seed or pre-seed founders using science or technology, and members must attend an average of at least three days a week. Applications are rolling and selection includes a short call. Admission does not imply investment.

NatWest Accelerator — after joining the programme

Coworking: 11–13 Bishops Square, Brushfield Street, London E1 6EG.
Events: 94 Moorgate, London EC2M 6XT.
Contact: londonaccelerator@natwest.com.

NatWest says any business may join its community and members can request access to coworking and events. Programme terms also refer to desk space and meeting areas. It is not a walk-in service: join first and request access in writing. Confirm a private room for the exact time before inviting an investor.

PPL Hub — completely free, but not for an ordinary commercial meeting

Address: St Saviours Wharf, 23 Mill Street, London SE1 2BE.
Hours: Monday–Friday, 9.30am–4.30pm.

The venue costs £0 for voluntary, community and public-sector organisations. It has a main space for up to 50 people and an integrated six-person meeting room. Three slots are available: 9.30am–1pm, 1pm–4.30pm or all day; dates open on a rolling 90-day calendar. A normal commercial startup without a community purpose is not the intended user.

Important: Tottenham’s Living Room is a free community-access space, but not a guaranteed private meeting room. The Trampery Tottenham’s separate Showroom costs £100 + VAT for four hours or £200 + VAT for a full day, including 500Mbps Wi-Fi. Do not arrive with an investor without a confirmed booking.

Where the desk is not free

The Albany

Address: Douglas Way, London SE8 4AG.

This is a genuine coworking hub, but it costs £8.50 per day for a desk-only booking. The £10 option includes unlimited tea and filter coffee, a day locker and up to ten printed pages.

ETNA Community Centre

Address: 13 Rosslyn Road, Twickenham TW1 2AR.

A small room suitable as a workstation costs £24 per hour; larger rooms start at £35 per hour. Wi-Fi, tea, coffee and milk are included with room hire. It is not a free drop-in office.

What you may and may not expect

  • You may: visit during public opening hours, meet people, ask about activities and support, and use confirmed Wi-Fi or study facilities.
  • Ask first: before occupying a table for hours, taking calls, meeting a client or plugging into power.
  • Do not assume: you may use the venue as a registered or postal business address, reserve a private room, run a commercial meeting or store belongings.
  • Tea and water: free tea is confirmed at Walworth Living Room and included in the paid Albany and ETNA options. Other cafés sell drinks. The City Hall directory does not promise free drinking water at every venue.
  • Noise: a community venue may host children and activities; a library is a better choice for focused work.
