Six lending companies face restrictions on new business and, in some cases, receiving payments. Here are the names, dates and practical checks for existing customers.
Thanks for £1The Financial Conduct Authority has restricted six lending companies. It raised concerns about their anti-money laundering policies, controls and procedures while assessing their applications. The restrictions do not establish wrongdoing by customers and do not cancel existing debts.
The firms are Kingscrown Finance Ltd, MOMSB Ltd, Momentus Capital Ltd, Grosvenor Funding Ltd, Grosvenor Funding (North West) Ltd and Abbital Ltd. Existing customers and anyone receiving a new offer should check these names carefully.

The regulator said on 23 October 2026 that the restrictions were imposed at each firm’s request. Broadly, they prevent or limit new customers, new lending arrangements and extensions of existing credit. The exact terms differ by firm.
- Kingscrown Finance Ltd: restrictions were first imposed on 21 April and strengthened on 25 September 2026. The firm must wind down its existing loan book, with limits on how it may receive payments from existing customers.
- MOMSB Ltd and Momentus Capital Ltd: restricted from 7 October. They cannot take new customers or enter new lending arrangements, subject to limited exceptions. Payment acceptance is restricted and an independent review of their anti-money laundering framework is required.
- Grosvenor Funding Ltd and Grosvenor Funding (North West) Ltd: restricted from 9 October. New customers and new lending arrangements are prohibited, payment acceptance is restricted and an independent review is required.
- Abbital Ltd: restricted from 15 October. The terms specify when it may take new customers, enter new arrangements or accept payments, and require an independent review.
Registration is not authorisation
These are unregulated lenders in a category that must register for anti-money laundering supervision. That registration is not the same as full FCA authorisation and does not mean the firms are subject to the wider FCA regulatory regime or that every normal consumer protection applies.
Do not rely on a firm merely saying that it is “registered”. Check the legal name, status and permitted services through the official FCA Firm Checker.
What existing customers should do
- Do not stop payments on your own. A restriction on the firm does not cancel your agreement or debt. A missed payment could affect your credit record.
- Ask for written confirmation. Check whether the payment date, amount or bank details have changed because of the restrictions.
- Do not send money to new bank details based only on a message. If details suddenly change, contact the firm using information from your original agreement and separately verify its official status.
- Keep evidence. Save the agreement, schedule, statements, correspondence and screenshots from the online account.
- Complain in writing. Complain to the firm first, then check whether the Financial Ombudsman Service covers your particular service. Normal redress may not apply to an unregulated lender.
If you receive a new loan offer
Do not pay an “insurance”, “release” or other advance fee before checking the company. Five of the six named firms are prevented from taking new customers or entering new lending arrangements, while Abbital is subject to specific conditions. If an offer arrived after the relevant restriction date, keep it and report it to the regulator.
The FCA is also assessing responses from around 900 registered firms in this category. Regulated firms dealing with them have been reminded to conduct their own due diligence: registration alone is not enough.
Geographical scope: the announcement concerns financial services and customers across the United Kingdom. A customer’s precise rights depend on the contract, the firm’s status and the type of credit.
