The Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Food Standards Scotland issued an urgent warning on 10 October: some imported raw shell eggs from Yasensvit Ltd of Kyiv may be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis. Consumers are advised to check the code printed directly on the shell.
Which eggs are being recalled?
The recall covers raw shell eggs of all sizes and all durability dates where the egg itself carries the code 3UA1012066. The official notice also gives the establishment code a-UA-10-12-06-X-PC, PP.

The eggs may have been repacked in the UK and sold under other company names or with different packing centre details, so the box does not always identify them.
Where might they have been sold?
According to the regulators, most of the consignment reached catering businesses through wholesalers. Some may have gone to small independent shops and convenience stores. The eggs are not sold in the major supermarket chains.
Eggs produced in the UK are not affected by this recall. If the code on the shell is not 3UA1012066, this particular warning does not apply to that product.
What should shoppers do?
Do not eat eggs marked 3UA1012066. The FSA advises disposing of them safely at home. Do not try to make the product safe by cooking it more thoroughly: the official action for the recalled batch is not to consume it.
Businesses holding these eggs have been told to stop using and selling them immediately, withdraw the stock and arrange a recall if they have already been sold to consumers.

UKHSA found the S. Enteritidis strain t5.8998 in egg samples. Genetic sequencing showed it differs from the strains in a separate ongoing outbreak investigation, but it is linked to 36 salmonella cases reported in England in 2026.
Salmonella typically causes diarrhoea, stomach cramps, vomiting and fever; symptoms often pass within a few days, but the infection sometimes leads to serious illness. Young children, older people, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems face a higher risk of complications. Food Standards Scotland advises anyone with symptoms not to return to work, school or nursery until at least 48 hours after they have fully stopped.

Which eggs can be eaten raw or lightly cooked?
The FSA's general advice is unchanged: eggs not covered by the recall should be cooked thoroughly and handled hygienically. For infants, young children, pregnant women and older people, raw or lightly cooked eggs are recommended only where they carry the British Lion mark or the producer is part of the Laid in Britain scheme.
