What to do in London on Sunday 11 October: a free full-day route
A ready-made plan for tomorrow: a free service at St Paul's, East End Sunday markets, Frieze's special gallery day, Evensong and an organ recital. Entry to every main stop is £0; travel, food and purchases are extra.
Tomorrow, Sunday 11 October 2026, can be a nearly cost-free day out in London. The route below combines church, a walk, markets, galleries and music. Entry to every main stop is free; travel, food and shopping are extra.
8am — a free service at St Paul's Cathedral
St Paul’s holds Holy Communion at 8am, Choral Mattins at 10am, Sung Eucharist at 11.15am and another Eucharist at 5.30pm on Sundays. The Cathedral marks these services as free and unticketed. The principal Sung Eucharist lasts about 75 minutes.

This is a service, not a free tour: arrive early, follow staff instructions and do not expect access to the paid dome galleries.
9.15am — Columbia Road Flower Market
Columbia Road Flower Market runs on Sundays from 8am to 2pm at Columbia Road, E2. Tower Hamlets Council also lists about 60 independent shops, galleries, cafés and pubs behind the market. Browsing is free; purchases are optional.
For vintage goods, food and street atmosphere, continue to Brick Lane. The council lists its Sunday market at 10am–3pm, Brick Lane, E1. Petticoat Lane on Middlesex Street, E1, is another option from 9am to 3pm.
11am–2.30pm — Frieze East End Day, free
On 11 October, Frieze is holding East End Day, with participating galleries keeping extended hours from 11am to 6pm. It stretches across Dalston, Bethnal Green, Hoxton, Old Street, Southwark and beyond. The listed gallery visits are free unless a venue states otherwise.
A practical walking sequence after Columbia Road is Maureen Paley, 60 Three Colts Lane, E2 6GQ; Herald St, 2 Herald Street, E2 6JT; Peer, 97–99 Hoxton Street, N1 6QL; Emalin, 4–8 Helmet Row, EC1V 3QJ; and Nicoletti, 91 Paul Street, EC2A 4NY. This is not one exhibition in one building, so use Frieze's official map and choose three or four stops.
3pm — Choral Evensong at St Paul's
Back at St Paul’s, Choral Evensong begins at 3pm and lasts about 45 minutes. It is free and unticketed. This is the gentler option for anyone who does not want an 8am start.
4.30–5pm — free organ recital
St Paul’s official listing confirms a Sunday organ recital on 11 October from 4.30 to 5pm. Admission is £0 and no ticket is required. Evensong, a short break and the recital make a simple afternoon pairing.
If energy remains: Frieze Sculpture in Regent's Park
A daylight alternative is Frieze Sculpture in the English Gardens at the south end of the Broad Walk in Regent’s Park. The outdoor display of 11 works runs until 1 November and is free. It requires a separate trip from St Paul’s, so skip it if you want an unhurried day.
What the day costs
- St Paul’s services — £0;
- Columbia Road, Brick Lane and Petticoat Lane — £0 entry;
- East End Day — £0;
- organ recital — £0;
- Frieze Sculpture — £0;
- travel, food, flowers and shopping — your choice.
Bring water and a snack to keep costs down. Free admission does not guarantee a seat or immediate entry, so arrive 15–20 minutes before services and the recital.
Weather and transport on 11 October
The Met Office forecasts a cloudy London day with a high near 15°C. Rain risk is below 5% through the day and around 10% late at night. Check again in the morning.
TfL's published plan shows no Circle line between Edgware Road and Aldgate via Victoria, closures on parts of the District line, and no DLR between Stratford International and Woolwich Arsenal. The Weaver line has no service at all until 10.15am. Check the Journey Planner and live status before leaving.
The shorter, no-early-start version
10am Columbia Road → 11am East End Day → 2.15pm travel to St Paul’s → 3pm Evensong → 4.30pm organ recital. All five stops can be visited without an admission ticket. Or choose only the market, two galleries and the recital — Sunday does not have to become a marathon.
