Tickets on sale, event missing: UK listings checked on 8 October

We checked fourteen upcoming concerts, stand-up shows and lectures for the Russian-speaking audience in the UK against the venues' own websites. Six matched. In eight cases the date, the time or the venue itself did not line up — including a 2023 concert that is still on sale with a working buy button.

This is our weekly check. We take the events that ticket sites and Russian-language listings are currently advertising in the UK and verify each one against the venue's or the promoter's own website. On 8 October 2026 we went through fourteen upcoming events. Six matched completely. In the other eight the details did not line up — by months in some cases, by three years in one.

What exactly did we check?

Fourteen events aimed at the Russian-speaking audience in the UK over the next six weeks — concerts, stand-up and lectures currently on sale through listings sites and ticket services.

One rule applies: an event counts as confirmed only if it appears on the venue's own site or the official promoter's site, with the same date, the same time and the same price. Listings sites and ticket resellers were used as leads, never as proof.

Why is a 2023 concert still on sale?

The page for Maxim Leonidov's concert at The Clapham Grand was never taken down after the show, and it is now in its fourth year — buy button included.

The venue's site still serves a page titled "Maxim Leonidov: The Best of the Secret" dated "Thu 2 Nov" — with no year — and a BUY TICKETS button. In 2026, 2 November falls on a Monday. Thursday 2 November was in 2023.

Two ticket services hold the same date. Fridayticket.com spells it out in the page title: "Максим Леонидов в Лондоне 02 ноября 2023 — The Clapham Grand", while the card itself reads "02 ноября, 20:00, The Clapham Grand, 49–125 GBP" with a "Купить билет" button. On afishalondontickets.com it is "Максим Леонидов, Thu, 02.11.2023, 19:00, The Clapham Grand" with a "Купить билеты" button. Three sources give three different times for a concert that took place three years ago.

Separately: The Clapham Grand does have a live event with Maxim Leonidov — a different one. It is "Secret FM", on the venue's own page: "Sun 8 Nov • 7pm – 9:45pm", doors at 19:00, with Maxim Leonidov and Nikolai Fomenko on stage, 12+. Listings sites call the same evening "Maxim Leonidov: Eurotour". If you are looking for the 8 November show, search for "Secret FM".

What does not add up at Backyard Comedy Club?

The promoter is selling tickets for 26 October at £45–65, while the club's own listing says there are no upcoming events at all.

The page at backyardcomedyclub.co.uk/events/ reads "There are no upcoming events", and the most recent entries in the list are from January 2025. Meanwhile Fienta has the sale open: "Александр Незлобин", Monday, October 26, 2026, 20:00–22:00, Backyard Comedy Club, Cambridge Heath Road 231, London E2 0EL, five price categories from £45 to £65.

This does not necessarily mean a cancellation: private hires often never reach a venue's public listing, as we noted last time. But a buyer cannot currently verify the evening on the club's site.

For comparison, the tour's second London date checks out without any trouble. Pleasance London carries "Sasha Nezlobin: I'm Fine" on 27 October at 19:30.

Why is a "Cambridge" date in a UK listing not in the UK?

The Fugu Dugu concert on 27 October sits in the "United Kingdom" section, but The Cantab Underground is in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.

WorldAfisha lists "Fugu Dugu, Legend of Baba Yaga: East Meets West" on 27.10.2026 at 20:00, Cambridge, Cantab Underground, priced "from $45" — in dollars. Songkick gives the venue address as 738 Massachusetts Avenue, 02139, Cambridge, MA, US. The tour's other dates are American too: the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago on 16 October and the Orchid Theater in Ferndale, Michigan, on 25 October.

The practical takeaway is simple: if a UK listing quotes a price in dollars, that is your first cue to check which Cambridge, Birmingham or Richmond the venue is actually in.

What other mismatches did we find?

Four more — at Big Belly Comedy Club, The Clapham Grand, 229 The Venue and The Tabernacle.

Kirill Selegey, 18 October, Big Belly Comedy Club. Listings put the show on Sunday 18 October at 19:00. The club's own site has exactly one Selegey page — "KIRILL SELEGEY STAND-UP COMEDY SHOW IN LONDON", "Sun 8 Feb 6:00PM", doors 18:00, start 18:45, with a live Buy tickets button. There is no 18 October page on the club's site.

Semyon Slepakov, 24 November, The Clapham Grand. The venue's site serves a "Semyon Slepakov" page dated "Wed 1 Oct" with an explicit note in the text: "PLEASE NOTE: This show was postponed and the new date is now 1st October 2025". The BUY TICKETS button is still there. There is no page for 24 November 2026, the date carried by the listings. The same venue also keeps old pages live for Tina Karol ("Tue 19 Nov", i.e. 2024) and Leonid Fedorov ("Mon 22 May") — even though the real Tina Karol concert there is set for 21 February 2027 and has a page of its own.

Zlata Ognevich, 15 November, 229 The Venue. The venue's what's-on section does not open: the server returns a 500 error and a WordPress page reading "Error establishing a Redis connection". Checked three times in a row. Verifying the concert on the venue's site is currently impossible. The times also differ between sources: listings give 19:00, a partner feed of the venue's events gives 18:00; Karabas sells tickets at £39–55.

Ilya Kolmanovsky's lectures, 11 October, The Tabernacle. The domain tabernaclew11.com now resolves to an unrelated site about a criminal defence lawyer in Orlando. Checking the evening on the venue's site is not possible. The promoter does confirm it, though: pryamaya.eu lists both lectures on 11 October at The Tabernacle — the children's "Return of the Bermuda Snail" at 12:00 and "Nobel Prizes 2026 UNLOCKED" at 14:00, both marked as last remaining tickets. Listings sites, meanwhile, call the children's lecture "Scientific Discoveries for Children" — a different name for the same talk.

What checked out with nothing to flag?

Six of the fourteen events matched their venue pages exactly.

Verka Serduchka — indigo at The O2, Friday 23 October, doors 18:00, status "On sale now" on the venue's site. The HARDKISS — Electric Ballroom, Thursday 5 November, 19:00, present in the venue's listing; Karabas sells tickets at £41.20. Diana Arbenina and Night Snipers — Scala, Wednesday 18 November, confirmed by the venue's own entry. "Secret FM" — The Clapham Grand, Sunday 8 November, doors 19:00. "Sasha Nezlobin: I'm Fine" — Pleasance London, 27 October, 19:30. Kolmanovsky's lectures on 11 October — confirmed by the promoter.

Has Soviet Underground announced a date?

No. As of 8 October the London band has no new gig announced under either of its two names.

Songkick says it plainly: "Unfortunately there are no concert dates for Soviet Underground scheduled in 2026"; the last gig was 12 September at The Victoria. The Victoria (Dalston) listing runs to February 2027 with no sign of the band. The Hope & Ruin programme in Brighton has nothing for October either. There are no announcements on their Bandcamp page, and no upcoming "Sounds of Soviet Underground" night. As soon as a date appears we will run it as a separate story — our previous piece on the band is here.

What should you do if you have already bought a ticket?

Go back to where you bought it first, then to your bank.

A refund always runs through the point of purchase: the service you paid, not the venue and not the artist. If the seller does not respond or refuses and the event did not happen, a card payment can be disputed with your bank as a chargeback — this is a card-scheme procedure, bank deadlines vary, so do not leave it.

Credit cards are a separate matter: if you paid by credit card and the purchase was over £100 (and not more than £30,000), section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 applies — the seller and the bank are jointly liable, so you can bring the claim to the bank as well as to the seller. Debit cards are not covered by section 75; there, chargeback is the route. We are not a law firm: if the amount is large or the dispute drags on, take legal advice.

How do you check an event in two minutes?

Open the venue's own website and find the event there — before you pay, not after.

The sequence is simple. Search for the venue's name and go to its own site, not to a listings page. Find the What's On section and the date you want. Check three things: the date together with the day of the week, the time and the price. If the venue's page shows a date with no year, check which weekday it falls on this year — that is exactly how a 2023 concert that is still on sale comes to light. If the event is not on the venue's site at all, that is not yet a cancellation — private hires do sit outside public listings — but then ask the seller for written confirmation from the venue before you pay. And pay by credit card if the amount is over £100.

The previous instalment of this column — four mismatches out of fifteen events, 3 October. Our round-up of regular Russian-language venues and events is in the Russian-speaking London guide.
