The average litre of E10 petrol at British forecourts costs 173.5p and B7 diesel 199p, calculated across 8088 forecourts nationwide on 26 October 2026.

What changed over the week

Petrol is down by 0.6p and diesel down by 0.2p. On a 55-litre tank that is about £0.34 for petrol and £0.09 for diesel.

Where it is cheaper and dearer

Among the larger cities Belfast has the cheapest petrol at 165.9p a litre on average, while Sheffield is the dearest at 173.9p — a gap of 8p a litre.

How much choosing the forecourt saves

Within a single city the gap between cheaper and dearer forecourts reaches 14p a litre, widest in Leeds. On a full tank that is £7.70 — more than waiting for prices to fall. One forecourt in twenty sells petrol below 163.9p a litre.

Where these figures come from

We take the government Fuel Finder dataset — the scheme forecourts must report their prices to — and keep a snapshot every day. Neither Google nor Fuel Finder itself stores history, so the week-on-week comparison comes from our own archive. Snapshot of 26/10/2026 06:48:25. This article is assembled automatically from that data: every figure is computed, not retold.

How this is calculated, and reuse

Prices come from Fuel Finder, the government scheme forecourts must report to, cross-checked against the retailers' own open feeds. We keep a snapshot of all 8088 forecourts every day: neither Fuel Finder nor the search engines keep history, so a week-on-week comparison is only possible from our own archive. Snapshot: 26/10/2026 06:48:25.
