UK firms set for more than £330m in export contracts in Guinea and Benin

UK Export Finance has announced nine infrastructure projects in Guinea and Benin. The expected value of contracts for UK suppliers exceeds £330 million; the agency separately cites £1.1 billion in financing and guarantees. Where could suppliers find opportunities, and what has not yet been announced?

On 20 October 2026, the government export credit agency UK Export Finance (UKEF) announced nine infrastructure projects in Guinea and Benin. According to UKEF, UK companies are set to secure export contracts worth more than £330 million across the projects. They will supply goods and services for schools, water supply, electricity networks and government buildings. The announcement does not mean the entire amount has already become company revenue: the release gives no delivery schedule or payment timetable.

Three figures that should not be confused

More than £330 million is the announced value of export contracts for UK companies across the nine projects. £1.1 billion is UKEF financing and guarantees supporting the deals; it is not the value of UK supplies or contractors' profit. £1.7 billion is an increase in UKEF's exposure capacity across West and Central Africa. It is capacity to support future deals, not the value of contracts already won. The release does not break down all nine projects by the value of UK orders.

Projects named in the announcement

In Guinea, UKEF cites £75 million in financing for a programme of new primary and secondary schools across four regions; Planet One won the contract. A further £91 million backs a regional water project delivered by UK-headquartered Aqua Africa. For the La Cotiere Conakry electricity transmission project, UKEF reports £129 million of support: Elecnor secured the contract and opportunities are expected for UK suppliers of transmission equipment, grid technology and engineering services.

In Benin, £82 million of financing will help fund a new government administrative complex; the contract was awarded to ACC UK Group Ltd. UKEF points to potential demand for design, engineering, security systems and specialist building services. The £75 million, £91 million, £129 million and £82 million figures refer to financing for specific projects; they are not a breakdown of the £330 million in UK export contracts.

What this means for smaller businesses

For smaller UK suppliers, the likely route is through the named lead contractors' supply chains: equipment, engineering, design and specialist services. However, the release does not announce an open application round for these nine projects or a subcontractor deadline. Orders should not be assumed to be guaranteed.

A business that already exports or is preparing an export contract can describe its products, market and finance needs through UKEF's official contact form or contact a regional Export Finance Manager. Managers can explain potential finance and insurance options, but making contact does not guarantee support or access to a specific contract.

The deals were announced at the fifth UK–West and Central Francophone Africa Trade and Investment Forum in Conakry, which runs until 21 October 2026. The official release gives no overall timetable for the nine projects or public deadline for UK suppliers.
