London Tube closures this weekend, 3–4 October: Victoria shuts on Saturday evening, Jubilee closed to Canary Wharf both days

The Victoria — Brixton section is closed from 7.30pm on Saturday until 10am on Sunday — exactly over the evening and the morning. The Jubilee does not run between Green Park and Canary Wharf on either day, the DLR loses Shadwell — Tower Gateway on Sunday, and Acton Main Line on the Elizabeth line is shut overnight. Line by line, with times and alternatives.

The weekend of 3–4 October is quieter on the London Underground than the middle of the month, but two sections close at times that break evening and morning plans. Here is exactly what is shut, line by line, with times — and how to get around it.

Which Tube lines are closed on 3–4 October?

Victoria line. No service between Victoria and Brixton from 7.30pm on Saturday until 10am on Sunday. This is the most awkward item of the weekend: the section shuts exactly when people head into town for the evening and reopens only in the middle of Sunday morning. Pimlico, Vauxhall, Stockwell and Brixton lose the Victoria line for that window.

Jubilee line. No trains between Green Park and Canary Wharf on both days: Saturday from 4.30am until 1.30am on Sunday, and Sunday from 5.30am. On Night Tube, there is no service Finchley Road — Stratford overnight into Saturday (1.30–4.30am) and no service Stratford — Green Park overnight into Sunday (1.30–5.30am).

DLR. On Sunday there is no service between Shadwell and Tower Gateway.

Windrush line. On Sunday there are no trains between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction.

Elizabeth line. Acton Main Line station is closed from 11pm on Saturday until 9am on Sunday. The line itself runs; only the station is shut.

Northern line. Overnight into Saturday, between 2.45am and 4.15am, Night Tube trains do not stop at Waterloo.

Piccadilly and District. Westbound trains do not stop at Barons Court — this is not a one-weekend closure but engineering work running until November. Eastbound trains still call there.

Waterloo & City line does not run at weekends at all. That is its normal timetable, not engineering work.

How to get around the Victoria — Brixton closure

From the south, the quickest option is the Northern line from Stockwell, which stays open as an interchange. From Brixton, Southeastern and Thameslink trains run to Victoria and London Bridge in comparable time to the Tube. Buses along the Brixton — Stockwell — Vauxhall — Victoria corridor run through the night: routes 2, 36, 59, 159 and 185.

On the Green Park — Canary Wharf stretch, use the Elizabeth line (Bond Street to Canary Wharf, which is faster than the Jubilee was) together with the DLR from Bank. Note that on Sunday the DLR loses the Shadwell — Tower Gateway section, so enter Docklands via Bank rather than via Tower.

What else to allow for this weekend

On Sunday at 2.30pm Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hosts an NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Commanders. Tickets are sold out, the stadium holds more than 60,000, and Seven Sisters, Tottenham Hale and White Hart Lane will be crowded afterwards. The Victoria line is open by then — the closure ends at 10am — but allow extra time getting out of the stations.

The same day, Trafalgar Square hosts the Japan Matsuri festival from 10am to 8pm. The nearest stations are Charing Cross, Embankment and Leicester Square, and all lines there run normally.

Where to check before you set off

TfL sometimes cancels or extends planned closures at short notice, and unplanned faults are added on top. Check the line status page on the TfL site before travelling — it updates in real time. If your train is 15 minutes late or more, you can claim a refund on Oyster and contactless through your TfL account within 28 days.
