A £0 workspace: publicly backed support for London entrepreneurs
New entrepreneurs do not always need to pay for coworking. ONLYWAY.NEWS checked City of London, Camden, Wandsworth and BIPC programmes to identify where a desk and Wi-Fi are genuinely free, for how long and who qualifies.
Yes, a genuine £0 workspace in an office environment is available in London. Public support normally means a shared desk, Wi-Fi, business databases and advice rather than a lockable private office. The most accessible option without a borough restriction is free membership of the Small Business Research + Enterprise Centre, operated by the City of London Corporation.

Start Up Wandsworth: a free coworking lounge

BIPC: a free library-based network for entrepreneurs
The British Library's Business & IP Centre supports business creation and growth through workspaces, databases, workshops and advice. The regional centre is at 96 Euston Road, London NW1 2DB. Six local London centres also operate:
- Bromley: Bromley Central Library, High Street, BR1 1EX — coworking and bookable meeting rooms;
- Enfield: Edmonton Green Library, 36–44 South Mall, N9 0TN — support and meeting rooms;
- Greenwich: Woolwich Centre Library, 35 Wellington Street, SE18 6HQ — coworking;
- Lewisham: Lewisham Library, 199–201 Lewisham High Street, SE13 6LG — support and meeting rooms;
- Waltham Forest: Leytonstone Library, 6 Church Lane, E11 1HG — advice and business resources;
- Wandsworth: York Gardens Library, 34 Lavender Road, SW11 2UG — coworking and meeting rooms.
Core support and library workspace may be free, but meeting rooms follow each branch's booking rules. Contact the selected centre before travelling.
Why do these programmes exist?
Support comes from libraries and councils as well as national funding. London received £144,444,970 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund for 2022–25. City Hall invested £30 million in 28 local-business projects and another £8 million to extend 26 projects in 2025–26. Grow London Local received £7 million for 2022–25 and a further £4.7 million for 2025–26.
City Hall reports that by May 2026 London's UKSPF programmes had supported 32,000 enterprises and helped create 3,000 jobs. A free entrepreneur workspace is therefore part of a broader small-business policy, not merely a commercial coworking trial.
What to do today
- If borough location is irrelevant, submit the free SBREC application and wait for a Membership ID.
- If you live or trade in Camden, apply for Camden Hub 30 at the same time.
- If you are in Wandsworth, register with Start Up Wandsworth for lounge access.
- Select the nearest BIPC and confirm whether coworking and meeting rooms are free at that branch.
- Never use a workspace as a registered company address without written permission.
Conclusion: a completely free shared workspace backed by public business support genuinely exists. SBREC City of London is the strongest first choice for most new entrepreneurs; borough programmes may offer more hours or a more modern coworking environment but require local eligibility and selection.
