Free family Halloween in Hyde Park: no ticket needed, but entry rules apply

Hyde Park Learning Centre will run free family activities about nature, bats and Halloween from 27 to 29 October. Advance registration is optional and does not provide priority entry.

Free family Discovery Days will take place at Hyde Park Learning Centre from Tuesday 27 to Thursday 29 October. The main programme is listed from 11am to 3:30pm, with last entry at 3pm. Organisers recommend arriving before 2:30pm so children have enough time to explore.

What is free?

Activities include sensory “feely boxes” in the Witches’ Den, a nature trail, learning about bats in the Royal Parks and spooky storytelling. Story sessions are scheduled for noon, 1pm and 2pm, while the other activities continue throughout the day. Costumes are encouraged but not required.

Do I need to book?

No. This is a drop-in event, so advance registration is not required. Free online registration only provides a reminder and more information. It does not guarantee entry or let visitors bypass a queue.

At busy times, organisers may operate a “cheese counter” number system to control capacity. Extra children’s activities will be available outside while families wait.

What ages is it for?

Most activities are designed for children aged about 3 to 11. A sensory activity is planned for under-threes, while some more challenging tasks suit children over 11 and adults. Children must remain supervised by an adult throughout.

No more than three children are allowed per adult. Groups of more than ten should contact the organisers in advance; the Royal Parks asks large groups to book and make a £5-per-person donation. Non-profit and charitable groups can contact the team to discuss their needs.

Where is the Learning Centre?

The venue is in the middle of Hyde Park and is also known as The LookOut. The Royal Parks warns that it is well hidden. Its What3Words location is cabin.areas.urban. The grounds are accessible, with toilets and a designated quiet space available.

Only assistance dogs are admitted. Picnics are welcome outside in Hyde Park, but food cannot be eaten within the Learning Centre grounds. Serpentine Bar and Kitchen is about a five-minute walk away.

How can we avoid the queue?

Reader tip: registering does not provide priority. Arrive near opening time or after the first rush, and allow at least an hour for activities. Families needing a calmer environment can ask staff for the quiet space.
