London Tube and TfL closures in October 2026: the Piccadilly line stops entirely at Halloween, and no Tube to Heathrow on 17–18 October

TfL has published its planned closures calendar. The headline: the Piccadilly line does not run at all on 31 October and 1 November, and on 17–18 October the Hammersmith to Heathrow and Uxbridge section is shut — so there is no Tube to the airport twice this month. South London trams stop for nearly a fortnight, the Northern line skips Burnt Oak for two weeks, and this coming weekend the Jubilee is closed between Green Park and Canary Wharf. Here is the whole month, weekend by weekend.

TfL has published its planned track closures calendar, in the edition dated 28 September 2026. October is a hard month for two groups of passengers: anyone travelling to Heathrow, and anyone living in south and east London. The headline event is the Piccadilly line, which will not run at all on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November. Here is the whole month, weekend by weekend, with the exact sections.

The short version

The Piccadilly line closes completely on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November, including Friday and Saturday Night Tube. That is Halloween weekend.

No Tube to Heathrow on two separate dates: on 17–18 October the Hammersmith to Heathrow and Uxbridge section is closed, and on 31 October – 1 November the entire line is. If you are flying on those dates, plan for the Elizabeth line, Heathrow Express or a coach — and remember that the price of each route into town varies several times over.

This coming weekend, 3–4 October: the Jubilee line is closed between Green Park and Canary Wharf during the day.

Running normally all month: Central, Victoria, Bakerloo, Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City and Waterloo & City — and the Jubilee too, after 4 October.

3–4 October: the Jubilee and the east

Jubilee line: on Friday 2nd into Saturday 3rd, no service between Finchley Road and Stratford during Friday Night Tube. On Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th, Green Park to Canary Wharf is closed during the daytime, and Green Park to Stratford is closed during Saturday Night Tube.

Northern line: overnight on Friday 2nd, trains do not stop at Waterloo between 02:45 and 04:15.

DLR: Tower Gateway to Shadwell closed on Sunday 4th.

Elizabeth line: on 3–4 October trains do not stop at Acton Main Line, Hanwell and West Ealing after 23:00 on Saturday and until 09:00 on Sunday.

Windrush line (the former East London line): on 3–4 October trains do not stop at Canada Water, including overnight services; on Sunday, Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction is closed.

Croydon trams: Wandle Park to Reeves Corner closed from 3 to 8 October; Arena to Elmers End closed on Sunday 4th.

10–11 October: the centre, Circle and District

Circle line: no service between Edgware Road and Aldgate via Victoria on 10–11 October.

District line: on 10–11 October, closed from Edgware Road and Tower Hill to Ealing Broadway, Kensington (Olympia), Richmond and Wimbledon — effectively half the line.

Piccadilly line: overnight on Friday 9th, trains do not stop at Earl's Court between 03:15 and 05:45.

DLR: Stratford International to Woolwich Arsenal closed on 10–11 October.

Elizabeth line: West Drayton to Slough closed until 08:15 on Sunday 11th.

Weaver line (the Chingford, Enfield Town and Cheshunt routes): no service on the entire line until 10:15 on Sunday 11th.

Suffragette line (Gospel Oak to Barking Riverside): on 11 October, Barking to Barking Riverside is closed, and Gospel Oak to Barking does not run until 09:45 or after 23:00.

Windrush line: Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction closed 5–8 October; Wandsworth Road to Clapham Junction closed 8–11 October. On Sunday 11th, add Surrey Quays to New Cross after 22:00 and Highbury & Islington to Dalston Junction after 22:15.

17–18 October: no Tube to Heathrow

Piccadilly line: Hammersmith to Heathrow and Uxbridge closed, including Friday and Saturday Night Tube. This is the key date of the month if you are flying.

District line: Turnham Green to Ealing Broadway closed.

Elizabeth line: on Sunday 18th trains do not stop at Acton Main Line, Hanwell and West Ealing, with a reduced service between Paddington and Maidenhead and at Heathrow Terminal 4. In other words the backup route to the airport is also degraded that Sunday — check times in advance.

DLR: Tower Gateway to Shadwell closed on Sunday 18th.

Mildmay line (the former North London line): on 18 October, Gospel Oak to Stratford closed until 11:15 and Camden Road to Stratford after 22:25.

Weaver line: Hackney Downs to Enfield Town and Cheshunt closed after 22:45 from 12 to 15 October; Edmonton Green to Cheshunt closed 17–18 October.

Suffragette line: Barking to Barking Riverside closed on 18 October.

Windrush line: on 18 October, Surrey Quays to New Cross after 22:00 and Highbury & Islington to Dalston Junction after 22:15.

Trams: Sandilands to New Addington closed 17–18 October.

24–25 October: the centre again, and the clocks

Circle line: no service Edgware Road to Tower Hill via Victoria on 24–25 October.

District line: on 24–25 October, closed from Edgware Road and Embankment to Ealing Broadway, Kensington (Olympia), Richmond and Wimbledon.

Piccadilly line: overnight on Friday 23rd, trains again do not stop at Earl's Court between 03:15 and 05:45.

DLR: Tower Gateway to Shadwell closed on 25 October.

Elizabeth line: on 25 October, a reduced service between Maidenhead and Reading, and no stops at Burnham and Taplow after 11:00.

Mildmay line: Willesden Junction to Shepherd's Bush closed after 19:30 on Saturday and until 12:00 on Sunday.

Windrush line: Sydenham to Crystal Palace closed on 25 October.

Trams: East Croydon to Beckenham Junction, Elmers End and New Addington closed from 24 October to 5 November — the longest closure of the month, nearly a fortnight without trams in the south.

One more thing about that weekend: the clocks go back an hour overnight on Sunday 25 October. Night services run to a special timetable that night, so if you are coming home late, check the times rather than trusting habit.

31 October – 1 November: the Piccadilly line stops entirely

Piccadilly line: no service on the entire line, including Friday and Saturday Night Tube. Not Heathrow, not King's Cross, not Cockfosters — the whole line. On top of that, Cockfosters to Uxbridge is closed from 28 to 30 October.

Northern line: trains do not stop at Burnt Oak from 26 October to 8 November. That is two weeks — plan for a neighbouring station.

Elizabeth line: on 31 October – 1 November trains do not stop at Acton Main Line, Hanwell and West Ealing after 23:00 on Saturday and all day Sunday; on 1 November there is a reduced service between Paddington and Maidenhead and at Heathrow Terminal 4.

DLR: Tower Gateway to Shadwell closed on 1 November.

Mildmay line: Stratford to Camden Road westbound closed after 23:45 from 26 to 29 October; Willesden Junction to Stratford eastbound after 23:00 on 28–29 October; Camden Road to Richmond and Willesden Junction to Clapham Junction closed on 1 November.

Suffragette line: Gospel Oak to Woodgrange Park closed until 09:45 on 1 November.

Windrush line: New Cross Gate to Crystal Palace and West Croydon closed after 23:30 from 26 to 29 October, and fully closed on 31 October – 1 November.

What it means in practice

Three conclusions. If you are flying on 17–18 October or 31 October – 1 November, work out your airport route in advance and allow an extra hour: the Piccadilly line is not an option on those dates, and the Elizabeth line runs reduced on the same Sundays.

If you live in south London and use the trams, the worst news of the month is the closure from 24 October to 5 November. That is not a weekend, it is nearly a fortnight, and the alternative is worth working out now.

And the general rule: the TfL calendar is a plan, not a guarantee. The edition this piece is based on is dated 28 September; sections and dates change, and works are sometimes cancelled or extended. Check the line status on the TfL site on the day you travel — thirty seconds that save an hour.
