Northern line recovered, District delays to Wimbledon
Updated at 07:00: the Northern line has recovered and no severe delays remain. Minor District delays between Earl's Court and Wimbledon continue, as does the Croydon tram closure. The Windrush line shuts after 23:15 tonight.
Updated at 07:00. The picture has changed: the Northern line has recovered and no severe delays remain. The morning section below is rewritten; the evening part is unchanged, as planned works do not move during the day.
This morning: what to avoid
The Northern line is back to normal. From early morning the Kennington to Battersea Power Station branch had severe delays after a faulty train at Nine Elms, and Underground tickets were being accepted on buses. TfL lifted the warning at around 06:52: the line now has a good service along its whole length. Ticket acceptance on buses ended with the delays — pay as you normally would.
District line, Earl's Court to Wimbledon: minor delays due to train cancellations, with a good service elsewhere. If Wimbledon is your destination and you are tight for time, a South Western Railway train from Waterloo is the safer bet: direct and unaffected.
Croydon trams. All day there is no eastbound service between Wandle Park and Centrale, and no westbound service between Church Street and Wandle Park. This planned work runs through Wednesday 7 October — between West Croydon and Wandle Park, plan on walking or a bus.
That is all for the morning: the Tube, DLR, Elizabeth line and the Overground lines are all running normally.
Tonight and the journey home
After 23:15 tonight the Windrush line (the former East London line) closes between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction / Battersea Park. No replacement buses will run at all — TfL asks passengers to use local buses and Underground instead. Heading south-west late, route yourself via Victoria or Clapham Junction on National Rail.
On the Mildmay line (the former North London line), the 22:29 from Stratford to Richmond terminates at Camden Road, arriving 22:49. That applies every evening through Thursday 8 October.

What to do
It has turned into a calm morning: the only people who need extra time are those heading to Wimbledon on the District line and anyone bound for central Croydon. Everyone else can take their usual route. For what else is closing this month, see our guide to Tube closures in October.
