We have launched a calendar: holidays, filing deadlines and official events

Life in Britain runs on dates. 5 October — tell HMRC you need to file. 31 January — file and pay. 18 November — the deadline for directors to verify their identity. Plus eight bank holidays a year that shift everything else.

Nobody remembers all of it, and learning a date from the news is usually too late. So we built a calendar.

What is in it

Bank holidays — from the official GOV.UK list, for England and Wales. The list is live: if the government declares an extra holiday, it appears on its own.

Filing deadlines — registering for Self Assessment, the paper and online returns, paying the tax, payments on account, Making Tax Digital quarterly updates, P60s and the P11D benefits report.

Official events — Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee decisions, the dates new immigration rules take effect, employment law changes, closing dates of open consultations.

Days of remembrance — Armistice Day on 11 November and Remembrance Sunday. We mark them without decoration: the official appeal is run by the Royal British Legion, and the place for it is their site, not our masthead.

How to use it

The calendar moves month by month and year by year, forwards and back. A coloured dot on a date says what it is: red for a bank holiday, blue for a filing deadline, teal for an official event, black for a day of remembrance, grey when we published something that day.

Why every date carries a link

We are not asking you to take our word for it. Each line leads to where it came from: GOV.UK, the Bank of England, the legislation itself. If a rule changes, you will see it at the source rather than in someone’s retelling.

The calendar is a reference, not individual advice: whether you must file depends on your own circumstances.
